FORTUNA — November 2, 2026. Fortuna Library offers genealogy research through an Ancestry database subscription, but Humboldt County says the service must be used on computers physically located in the branch.
Why this matters for family research
The county library’s subscription can help with historical records, census information and family-history investigations. It is not advertised as a free personal Ancestry account for use from home.
Plan for equipment limits
Fortuna Library says its public computer stations generally have a thirty-minute limit, with additional time sometimes available depending on demand. Researchers with complex searches should ask staff how sessions are managed.
Bring accurate information
Names, approximate dates and places can improve searches, but historical data may contain errors or refer to multiple people with similar names. Ask staff about citation and document-printing practices before republishing sensitive records.
